Key Features
- Optics-Ready Slide – Factory-milled to accept Shield RMSc-pattern micro red dots, so you don’t need to send the slide out or buy a plate adapter. Mount your dot and zero it in minutes.
- 15-Round Capacity – Packs 15+1 rounds of 9mm in a grip that still conceals under a T-shirt. That’s a 50% increase over the standard GX4, without the bulk of a double-stack.
- Adjustable Backstrap System – Comes with two interchangeable backstraps (flat and arched) so you can dial in the palm swell for your hand size. A proper grip means better recoil control and faster follow-ups.
- Flat-Face Serrated Trigger – The trigger shoes are flat with horizontal serrations for consistent finger placement. According to Taurus specs, the pull weight is 5.5 lbs with a short, tactile reset—predictable enough for defensive use.
- Loaded Chamber Indicator & Reversible Magazine Release – The LCI gives you a visual and tactile cue that a round is chambered, and the mag release can be swapped for left-handed shooters. Small details that matter under stress.
Who It’s For
This pistol is built for the concealed carrier who wants the capacity of a compact duty gun but the concealability of a subcompact. It’s also for shooters who want to run a red dot without spending $600+ on a slide or a whole new gun. If you’re a lefty, the reversible mag release means you can run it without mods. And if you’re on a budget but still want modern features—optics cut, rail, high capacity—this fills that slot without compromise.
Pros & Cons
- Pro: Affordable optics-ready setup—no need for aftermarket slide milling or adapter plates.
- Pro: 15-round flush-fit mag gives you Glock 19 capacity in a thinner, lighter package.
- Pro: Adjustable backstrap system fits a wide range of hand sizes right out of the box.
- Con: The factory trigger, while serviceable, has a bit of take-up before the wall. If you’re used to a crisp 1911-style break, you may want to swap in an aftermarket trigger shoe.
- Con: Holster support is growing but not as vast as Glock or S&W—check compatibility before buying leather or kydex.

The Zev OZ9C and Geissele G19 are premium race-ready guns with tighter tolerances and lighter triggers, but they cost four times as much and still need a red dot cut (especially the Geissele). The Taurus gives you 90% of the practical function for a fraction of the price—especially if you’re carrying, not competing.
FAQ
Does the Taurus GX4 Carry TORO come with any optics mounting plates?
No. The slide is milled directly for Shield RMSc-pattern optics (Holosun 407K/507K, Swampfox Sentinel, Sig Romeo Zero, etc.). You mount the optic directly to the slide with the screws provided by the optic manufacturer. No adapter plates needed.
What magazines are compatible with the GX4 Carry TORO?
The gun ships with two 15-round magazines. It also accepts standard GX4 11-round and 12-round magazines, though those will leave a gap at the base of the grip. Per Taurus specs, only 15-round mags should be used for Carry TORO to ensure proper function.
Is the trigger on the GX4 Carry TORO the same as the standard GX4?
Yes, it uses the same flat-face serrated trigger assembly. According to Taurus specs, pull weight is 5.5 lbs with a short reset. Some shooters report a slight grit during break-in—about 200 rounds smooths it out.
Can I use a suppressor-height sight with a red dot on this pistol?
The factory sights are standard height and will co-witness with most Shield RMSc-pattern dots only if the dot sits low. For a lower 1/3 co-witness, you’ll need to swap the front sight for a taller option. Taurus does not currently offer suppressor-height sights for the GX4.
