Serial no. 16748. Manufactured circa 1944 by Gustloff-Werke, Weimar, chambered in 8mm Mauser, 24″ round barrel. Bore shows light frosting in the grooves with strong, well-defined rifling remaining. Metal has aged to an attractive plum patina with areas of the receiver appearing to have been scrubbed, while several original Waffenamt inspection markings remain visible. Serial numbers are non-matching, and the rifle displays characteristics possibly consistent with a post-war Russian capture or refurbishment. An interesting late-war “bcd” code K98k retaining visible German military markings and considerable period character. Action is smooth and functions correctly.
